The conservative political interest group American Crossroads sees a weakness for Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., who is up for re-election next year. And it’s going after her hard, Politico reports.

McCaskill admitted in March that she improperly billed taxpayers for $88,000 worth of flights on a private plane she co-owns and that she failed to pay more than $280,000 in taxes on the plane.

So American Crossroads placed billboards near the St. Louis and Springfield airports and launched a radio ad referring to the slip-ups.

"Sky-high airfares got you down?" the billboards read. "Senator Claire McCaskill flies in her own jet — and you pay for it!"

The radio spot portrays a detective questioning McCaskill, with answers taken from her public statements. "I want to be held accountable," McCaskill says in one clip. "I'm sure you will be ma'am," the detective replies. "Taking 80 grand from the federal government for flights on your own jet doesn't look good."
