Today marks the three-year anniversary of President Barack Obama signing into law the controversial stimulus package known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, but Rep. Allen West will not be wishing the plan a Happy Birthday.

Obama promised that the plan would jump-start the economy by creating jobs, but West adamantly rejects this, recently saying that the stimulus was an abject failure.

“The president took $800 billion from hardworking taxpayers and wasted it on failed programs, special interests giveaways, and backward economic policies driven by ideology rather than the economic reality confronting millions of Americans,” the Florida Republican said in a recent press release.

West goes on to say that not only has Obama’s stimulus failed, it has actually made things worse.

Citing what he calls “inescapable facts,” West points to the unemployment rate, gas prices, and skyrocketing national debt as examples of how Obama's plan has failed.

“What’s even more reprehensible is the president offered his budget this week asking for another $3.8 trillion for hardworking taxpayers, and from our children and grandchildren who have yet to be born. This budget proves the president continues to focus on growing government and spending more of our money,” West charged.

“These policies are wrong and I will not stop reminding the American people that President Obama’s policies are destroying the country I spent 22 years defending. ... My country means too much to me to remain quiet.”
