Sen. Ted Cruz has faced "brutal, bloody and ghastly" attacks from his opponents in the final days leading up to Monday's Iowa caucuses — but he stands an excellent chance of winning if the voter turnout isn't too large, Rep. Steve King tells

"If there's a huge turnout like we've never seen, a huge turnout, I guess I should say it that way, then Donald Trump's got a great shot. If it's just a record turnout, then I'd say Cruz will walk away with this," King, an Iowa Republican said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"I'm going to say this, I think the turnout is going to be around 135,000 and from there on down in numbers Ted Cruz comes out of this with a victory. There on up it gets more likely that it's Donald Trump."
King, who supports Cruz, believes the past few days have been rough on the Texas Republican, who is in second place behind Trump, the GOP presidential front-runner.
"He went to the top of the polls and then all guns were turned on Ted Cruz. This game of political king of the hill [has been] brutal and bloody and ghastly here in the last few days of this campaign," King said.
He said he's "not very concerned" about whether Cruz finishes first or second in the tally of the 1,600 caucuses across the Hawkeye State.
But, King added, "If you want a constitutional conservative to win, then your choice is Cruz."
