The United States should be "grateful" to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as an opponent of the Muslim Brotherhood, but the Obama administration seems to think that the group is a potential ally of the United States, former assistant Secretary of Defense Richard Perle told Newsmax TV  Friday .

"It seems to me that [President Barack] Obama has made every conceivable mistake and he's made them over and over again," Perle said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"We should be grateful for Sisi, who is a modernizer who is sympathetic to the United States and the west and is trying to deal with the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a scourge throughout the world," Perle told Malzberg.

However, as the administration considers the Muslim Brotherhood a potential ally, "they haven't read the history and they don't understand what they're doing," Perle said.
