Rep. Brian Babin: US Should Bar Syrian Refugees to Protect Communities

Local communities "need to be warned" of Syrian refugees being settled in their neighborhoods, Rep. Brian Babin told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"They need to be forewarned ... because they have little to no say from these federal contractors of these refugees that come into their communities," the Texas Republican told "Newsmax Now" hosts Ric Blackwell and Miranda Khan. "These refugees are chosen by the United Nations — and most American citizens don't have a clue how these refugee programs work."

"And all of a sudden, their community is just swamped with foreigners who come in and don't assimilate a lot of the time, don't speak English," Babin said. "They're loaded into their school systems."

Refugees also should be stopped from coming into the United States because they are fertile breeding grounds for the Islamic State and other terrorist groups, he said.

"Do we really want to open the doors to ISIS to come in and set up bases of operation inside our country — not only legally but at taxpayers' expense?" Babin asked. "I don't think so."
