Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said on Tuesday that he would support a no-fly zone over Syria in light of Friday’s massacre and suggested that the United States faced more pressure for a military response now than it did with Libya last year, reports Fox News.

"Compared to Libya, the strategic upside of taking out [Syrian President Bashar] Assad is far greater," the South Carolina Senator told Fox News. "We've used force to stop slaughter less strategic and egregious than this."

Graham’s comments came as the United States joined seven other allies on Tuesday to kick out Syria's diplomats. The U.S. government gave Syria's charge d'affaires 72 hours to leave, a State Department spokeswoman said.

In Friday’s massacre in Houla, 108 people were killed — including 49 children and 34 women — according to the United Nations.

When asked about what follows on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said "military action is always an option." But he warned that military intervention could bring "greater chaos" and "carnage."

"We do not believe that . . .  further militarization of the situation in Syria at this point is the right course of action," Carney said.
