An anti-Donald Trump super PAC began a petition drive on Friday urging the Republican National Committee to call a meeting to immediately replace the nominee "before all-but-certain defeat in November."

"There is one inescapable conclusion," the Free the Delegates group said in its online petition. "Donald Trump, at his current trajectory, will be defeated by Hillary Clinton in a landslide.

"Trump has been his own worst enemy," the petition continued before adding that "Trump is himself prepared to admit defeat — actively calling the established electoral system 'rigged' in an effort to soften the blow for his eventual defeat."

The group was founded by Kendal Unruh, a teacher at a Christian school in Denver who was a delegate to the Republican National Convention from Colorado last month.

It failed to get party officials to change the rules to allow delegates to vote their "conscience" for any candidate — not for the one that won a state's primary or caucus.

The effort was widely seen as a move to deny Trump the nomination on the convention floor at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

In its petition, Free the Delegates cited Rule 9(a), which allows the RNC to fill "vacancies which may occur by reason of death, declination, or otherwise" of the party's nominee.

"'Otherwise' includes disqualification and removal," the petition said.

"A meeting must urgently be called to replace Donald Trump as the party's nominee prior to the printing of balloting for the general election to disqualify, remove, and otherwise replace him before all-but-certain defeat in November."
