The Blue Angels have been grounded in a move to cut costs brought on by the sequester.
According to CBS News, performances of the Navy’s world-famous flying squad have been canceled for the rest of the year thanks to the automatic spending reductions that took effect in early March.

"Recognizing budget realities, current Defense policy states that outreach events can only be supported with local assets at no cost to the government," Navy officials said in a statement.

The Navy added that Blue Angel performances will resume "as the budget situation permits." It also noted that its top flyers would continue to practice at an airfield in Florida.

One of the events affected by the grounding is Naval Academy graduation on May 27, which will feature President Barack Obama as commencement speaker.

The Air Force has already cut the shows put on by its elite flying group — The Thunderbirds — as a result of the budget cuts.
