The Washington Post is standing by a report that Mitt Romney’s firm Bain Capital was active in outsourcing American jobs, Politico reports.

The Romney campaign had sought a retraction of the June 21 story arguing that its claims about Bain are either incomplete or inaccurate and that reporters misinterpreted SEC filings. President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has seized on the report and quickly turned out ads to capitalize on it.

"We are very confident in our reporting," Washington Post spokesperson Kris Coratti told Politico following a meeting between executive editor Marcus Brauchli and Romney representatives. Romney officials declined to comment.

"It was an off the record private meeting so I don’t have anything for you on that," Andrea Saul told Politico.

The Post’s story said Bain was an early investor in firms that outsourced jobs heavily.

"Bain played several roles in helping these outsourcing companies, such as investing venture capital so they could grow and providing management and strategic business advice as they navigated this rapidly developing field," the Post reported.
