Trump: Obama Played the 'Con Man' on 'The Tonight Show'

By    |   Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:16 AM EST

President Barack Obama was playing dirty pool when he ignored Donald Trump’s offer to donate $5 million to charity if the president released his college records and passport applications, the billionaire real estate mogul said.

When Jay Leno, host of “The Tonight Show” asked Obama about the real estate mogul’s offer on the air last month, the president responded with a joke.

“This all dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya. We had constant run-ins on the soccer field. He wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over,” Obama said.

Trump expressed his displeasure with that remark Monday on Mike Huckabee’s radio show, Politico reports.

“His answer to Leno was almost that of a con man, if you look at it. You could see that was a question that they purposefully wanted to be asked because they wanted to respond to it,” Trump said.

“So many are saying, ‘Why didn’t he do it? Why wouldn’t he have done it?’ And he didn’t do it. And I think the reason he didn’t do it, I think if I offered $1 billion dollars, he wouldn’t have done it,” he said.

Trump’s questioning of whether Obama is actually a U.S. citizen last year led Obama to release the full version of his birth certificate.

Also Monday, Trump had a war of words over Twitter with fellow billionaire Mark Cuban, who in the wake of the offer to Obama offered Trump $1 million to shave his head.

“Dummy @mcuban is at it again trying to use me to get publicity for himself! @mcuban tries so hard to be a star and he truly doesn't have what it takes and never will!" Trump wrote.
