Tim Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor who was among the pool of potential vice-presidential candidates until Saturday, said the selection of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running mate makes a “great ticket” and is a “terrific pick.”

Pawlenty, who, unlike other frontrunners, was notifield much earlier in the week of the Ryan selection, said Ryan brings to the campaign “real solutions to big problems” and his controversial changes to the Medicare program are necessary and realistic.

“Unlike the president, they’re actually willing to lead,” he said of the Romney/Ryan team. “They’re actually willing to put meat on the bones and put specific proposals on the table.”

Pawlenty accused President Barack Obama of cutting Medicare via the stimulus bill and said the Ryan budget will salvage the program before it runs out of money.

“There’s only one candidate in this race who’s actually cut Medicare and signed such a thing into law, and that’s President Obama,” he said ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”.

Pawlenty then went on a naming tirade of Obama’s failed policies and lack of accomplishments, “like a porky stimulus, like Obamacare, like relentless calls for tax increases, a foreign policy that was based on the notion that we’re going to have a reset with Russia that hasn’t worked….”

“He’s got a record, basically, of things that are unpopular, didn’t work, an economy that’s sputtering, high unemployment,” Pawlenty continued, describing Obama’s approach to entitlement reform as to “duck and bob and weave on it.”
