The barrage of television ads run in Ohio painting Gov. Mitt Romney as a liar and unsupportive of the auto industry bailout appear to have helped President Barack Obama, Sarah Palin said late on Tuesday.
The former governor of Alaska said it was “perplexing” that voters would opt for four more years of what she sees as violating the Constitution and driving the country in the wrong direction.
“The realization at this point is that those Bain Capital ads that voters just got inundated with in Ohio and some of these other areas that pertain to the auto bailout,” Palin said, “I think really hurt Romney.”

The Obama campaign ran a series of ads countering Romney’s claims that the auto bailout was the wrong decision, and that Jeep would be moving its plants to China in the near future. Polling has shown that voters responded negatively to Romney as a result of them.
“A win is a win,” Palin said on Fox News. “You get that ‘W’ in the column and that’s the direction the country has chosen. I just can’t believe that the majority of Americans would believe that incurring more debt is good for our economy, for our childrens future, [and] for job creators.”
Palin said she believed that the Romney campaign had done all it could and it was now just a matter of waiting to see how the rest of vote counting played out.
“You’ve asked the voters for that sacred trust,” Palin said, “which is their vote, and you know if you’ve done all that you can at that point, then there’s nothing else to do. You leave it all out there on the ice. You do your very best and things unfold as they should.”
Though her “fingers are crossed,” Palin said that Obama’s reelection would be four more years of practices that have not helped the country. The president has no interest in compromising with Republicans in Congress, so she expects that nothing will get better in Washington, D.C.
“This, really, is a catastrophic setback to our economy and to any opportunity we would have for Supreme Court justices to be appointed who would be strict adherents to the traditional interpretation of what our Constitution,” Palin said. “What we’ll get in four years is more debt because Barack Obama has been one to believe that government spending is the answer to the challenges facing America and our job creators.”
