Media mogul Rupert Murdoch is giving his tweet of approval to Mitt Romney's selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate.

“Thank God! Now we might have a real election on the great issues of the day. Paul Ryan almost perfect choice," tweeted Murdoch, who has been critical of Romney's campaign until now.

“Met Romney last week,” he tweeted last month. “Tough O Chicago pros will be hard to beat unless he drops old friends from his team and hires some real pros. Doubtful.”

It was Murdoch's Wall Street Journal that called for the selection of Ryan in a forceful editorial Thursday.

Ryan "has put entitlement reform at the center of the public agenda—before it becomes a crisis that requires savage cuts," the paper wrote. "And he has done so as part of a larger vision that stresses tax reform for faster growth, spending restraint to prevent a Greek-like budget fate, and a Jack Kemp–like belief in opportunity for all. He represents the GOP’s new generation of reformers.” The editorial said Ryan would help allay “doubts” about Romney.
