Monopoly board game mascot Rich Uncle Pennybags trolled former Equifax CEO Richard Smith as he testified Wednesday before the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday.
Dressed in a top-hat, bushy mustache, and monocle — and wiping her brow with Monopoly money — Amanda Werner of the progressive consumer rights advocacy group and think tank Public Citizen was caught on the live webcast of his testimony on the company's massive security breach – peering at Smith over his left shoulder.
Smith testified to the panel about the cyberattack on Equifax, which exposed the personal information of an estimated 145.5 million Americans, including Social Security numbers, names, and birthdates.
In a statement, Public Citizen condemned forced arbitration clauses as a "get out of jail free" card that lets companies like Equifax take advantage of consumers and avoid punishment.
"Make no mistake: Arbitration is a rigged game, one that the bank nearly always wins," Werner said in the group's statement. "Shockingly, the average consumer forced to arbitrate with Wells Fargo was ordered to pay the bank nearly $11,000. Bank lobbyists and their allies in Congress are trying to overturn the CFPB's rule so they can continue to rip off consumers with impunity."
Wednesday marked Smith’s second day of testimony in front of Congress.
Last week, Smith stepped down from Equifax, and is leaving with a golden parachute that might be worth more than $18 million, Bloomberg reported.
He averaged $15 million in awarded executive compensation the past three years, according to Bloomberg.
Twitter appreciated Werner's photobomb.
