Judicial Watch: Secret Service Has Lost Thousands of Items Since 2001

The Secret Service has lost thousands of items since 2001, including weapons, computers and six cars, Judicial Watch reported.

In the past 15 years, the agency responsible for protecting the president has had nearly 12,000 items get lost or stolen, notes Judicial Watch. Nearly 900 laptop/desktop computers, 121 weapons and more than 700 cell phones.

"This is supposedly an elite law enforcement agency — how did all this equipment get stolen?" Judicial Watch's Irene Garcia told The Daily Caller. "Honestly, it's baffling."

Judicial Watch found that 2004 was an especially "humiliating" year when the Secret Service reported 1,362 items as lost or stolen.

In 2002, the agency lost 1,179 items, and in 2014 it lost 1,032 items, including one car.
