Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system stopped 90 percent of the incoming rockets it targeted in last week’s conflict with Gaza, silencing critics who said the system would never work. But Iron Dome won’t protect Israel from larger missiles, including ones that could be fired from Iran, so Israel is now working furiously to bring a four-tier missile defense system online, a system that will protect Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and the rest of the country from small and medium-range missiles and also from aircraft. But questions about its efficacy linger. Will Iran, with its huge arsenal of medium-range missles, some of which may be carrying nuclear warheads, be able to evade Israeli missile defense?
