Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stated reason for calling early elections is to bring more stability to the government, but it may really be an attempt to counter growing opposition from Israeli officials and from the United States to a strike on Iran this fall. It could be that the only opportunity Netanyahu sees for an Israeli strike on Iran is in October, just prior to the presidential election in the United States. The timing would force the president to lend his support.
