Holder Contempt Vote Coming Thursday

A vote is scheduled for Thursday in the House on whether Attorney General Eric H. Holder will be held in contempt of Congress, The Washington Post reports.

House Republican aides tell the Post that leaders will bring the vote to the floor Thursday, the same day that the Supreme Court is to rule on the constitutionality of Obamacare.

Legislators, including House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) have said that the vote could be postponed or dismissed if Holder and the Justice Department present Congress with documents they've asked for as part of an investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal.

Last week, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted 23 to 17 along party lines to hold Holder in contempt. President Barack Obama has invoked the executive privilege to withhold the documents.

If the House cites Holder for contempt, it will be the first time in history that a U.S. attorney general is held in contempt of Congress.
