President Barack Obama should testify in Congress about the administration’s handling of the Benghazi killings, says Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C.

Obama has defended the conduct of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice in the affair, saying if Republicans are upset about it, “go after me.” That led Gowdy to offer a challenge to the president on Fox News.

"Instead of taking up for Susan Rice, I'll make a deal with the president. You come in her place and answer questions," he said.

Republicans are upset that Rice initially said the killing of four Americans in Libya came in response to an anti-Muslim video on YouTube, when it turned out to be an act of terrorism connected to al-Qaida.

"It's not just what she didn't say, it's what she did say," Gowdy said. "She may not have known it was al-Qaida. There is no evidence it was a video. There is no evidence it was spontaneous. So it's not just what Susan Rice wasn't told, it what's she affirmatively told the American people, which is demonstrably false."

Gowdy also is angry with former CIA Director David Petraeus, saying he signed off on false talking points about the Benghazi attack, even though he knew it was an act of terrorism. “Why did you change talking points? Because they didn’t fit an election year narrative that al-Qaida was on its heels.”
