Donald Trump Jr. will testify in private session before the Senate Judiciary Committee on his meeting last year with a Russian lawyer who potentially offered damaging information on Democrat Hillary Clinton, CNN reported Tuesday.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, the Iowa Republican, invited Trump Jr. to appear before the panel in July.
Trump Jr. has agreed to "a private, closed-door meeting" that will be "transcribed," CNN senior congressional correspondent Manu Raju reported.
Grassley's spokesman, Taylor Foy, confirmed the appearance — and Trump Jr. will be interviewed "by senior committee staff, and senators will be invited to attend."
No date for the testimony has been set.
The Trump campaign's Russia ties are being investigated by at least two other committees — and an FBI probe is headed by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Reuters reported last month a grand jury impaneled by Mueller had issued subpoenas to Trump Jr.
The June 2016 meeting was held at Trump Tower with Natalia Veselnitskaya, who had longstanding ties to the Kremlin.
Trump Jr.'s brother-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is now a top White House adviser, and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort also attended that meeting.
He has long expressed interest in testifying on his Russia contacts — and Trump Jr. released an email trail leading up to the meeting in July showing Moscow favored his father, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, over Clinton.
