Clint Eastwood's joke referencing Caitlyn Jenner at the Spike TV "Guys' Choice 2015" awards will be cut when the show airs on June 18,
USA Today reports.
According to the website
HollywoodLife.com, Eastwood made the joke during taping on Saturday.
As Eastwood introduced Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, "he compared the 'San Andreas' star to former athletes who have become actors, like 'Jim Brown and Caitlyn Somebody…,' HollywoodLife.com quoted an eyewitness.
The reference was to the 1976 Olympic gold medal winner Bruce Jenner, who announced last week the desire to be identified as a woman and by the name Caitlyn.
"Instead of laughing, the crowd groaned, and Clint said that he knew the joke wouldn’t work when he brought it up to the show’s producers," the website said.
USA Today notes that Spike TV billed the awards in press material as an "unfiltered, unpredictable" show, but Spike TV's Senior Vice President of Communications David Schwarz told USA Today, "We will remove the reference in the version that will air."
HollywoodLife.com's story was critical of Eastwood and laudatory of Jenner, but the site's online poll of readers found that as of Sunday night only 26 percent thought Eastwood should apologize.
