Top Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi took to Twitter Tuesday to rip the Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, dubbing it "Trumpcare" and vowing that the party would fight the White House on the proposal.
Schumer, the Senate minority leader from New York, posted these tweets:
Pelosi, the House minority leader from California, said that the Affordable Care Act evolved from "one of the most transparent drafting processes in recent memory."
Republicans released their proposal on Monday — and House committees are expected to begin voting on the 123-page legislation Wednesday.
The plan is expected to cover fewer than the 20 million people insured under President Barack Obama's original plan, including many residents of states carried by President Donald Trump in the November election.
The proposal would repeal Obamacare's individual mandate for coverage and replace it with a penalty for allowing coverage to lapse. It also would end fines on people who do not carry health insurance.
