The U.S. continues to “have concerns” about the transfer of sensitive technology that can be used to develop nuclear capability to Iran from Chinese companies, said Robert Einhorn, the U.S. State Department’s special adviser for nonproliferation and arms control.
Einhorn, speaking at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, said the Chinese government, which suppported UN sanctions on Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program, appears to have taken a “go slow” approach to involvement in Iran’s energy industry. Iran says its nuclear program is intended for energy production.
The U.S., Einhorn said, will consult with allies about an effort to “expand sanctions in a variety of ways” to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons capabilities.
