Bozell: Trump Is a 'Shameless Self-Promoter' and 'Huckster'
Fox News' "America's Newsroom"

By    |   Friday, 22 January 2016 01:08 PM EST

Brent Bozell, one of the 22 leading conservatives who speaks out against Donald Trump's presidential campaign in National Review, doubled down on his written comments Friday, calling the New York billionaire a "shameless self-promoter" and a "huckster."

"We have to come to our senses collectively," Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, told Fox News' Martha MacCallum on the "America's Newsroom" program.

"There is fury, absolute fury against Washington for years of betrayal, especially from the Republican establishment. I share in that. I don't think there is anybody that has been more furious than I have been, but you just can't tap into that and into that vein and pretend that you are going to do something about it when in fact you have a record, a real record of being the opposite on everything."

Further, he said of Trump, "you are a shameless self-promoter. You're a huckster and you're selling only yourself. God help this country if this man becomes president and continues this way. "

And, Bozell said that Trump can't have a "road to Damascus" transformation that changes his life to become a viable Republican candidate.

"Suddenly on the eve of the Republican primaries. Suddenly you're the exact opposite," he continued about Trump. "You're no longer a Democrat, you're a Republican. You're no longer for Planned Parenthood, you're against it."

Meanwhile, said Bozell, who backs Sen. Ted Cruz, also called on Trump to quit invoking the name of his uncle, National Review founder William F. Buckley.

"My uncle would never, never support this candidacy," he said. "He would never get behind this outrage. For Donald Trump to tap into that vein is offensive and I wish he'd cut it out."

Bozell further accused other party members who say they support Trump over Cruz of picking Trump because "they know he's malleable."
