Senate Armed Services Committee to Review Ash Carter Email

Senate Armed Services Committee to Review Ash Carter Email

Thursday, 17 December 2015 10:39 AM EST

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee says his panel will conduct a review of Defense Secretary Ash Carter's emails to ensure no sensitive information was compromised.

The statement from Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona follows the revelation that Carter used a personal email account during his first months on the job.

Carter acknowledged doing so in a CBS interview Thursday and said it was a mistake.

There was intense scrutiny of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton after disclosures she used a personal email account as secretary of state.

McCain says it's "hard to believe" that Carter would exercise the same error in judgment after all the attention on the issue. McCain says his committee has requested copies of the emails and would review them.
