A report that the White House and Iran have agreed to one-on-one nuclear negotiations is yet another example of breached national security by the Obama administration, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“It sounds to me . . . that it’s another example of a national-security leak from the White House,” the Republican said. “They’ve done a lot of that.”

Portman said if the reports are accurate, they highlight poor policy.

“It’s true that we’ve started to put sanctions in place but, David, as you know, that’s because Congress pressured the president to do it,” he told host David Gregory. “It sounds like the U.S. is taking a position that we’re likely to jettison our allies. The last thing we would want to do is to abandon our allies in this and to make it a one-on-one negotiation.”

Portman, who is playing the role of President Barack Obama in debate preparation with GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, defended the Romney’s much-questioned budget plan.

“The policy does work,” he said. “It does fit together, and it’s because it’s tax reform. It’s not just tax cuts.

“The president’s out there attacking the plan,” Portman continued. “Now, he’s mischaracterizing it. But at least Gov. Romney’s got a vision for the future, and he’s got the plan to put America back to work.”
