House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., vowed this week that the Pentagon's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy will be history by the end of the year, according to a report in The Hill.

Pelosi told The Hill that the Clinton-era DoD doctrine is at the top of her agenda. “I don’t have any doubt that ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ will be a memory by the end of this year,” she said.

The legislative fate of an allied law banning workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or identity may be less clear, however.

Nonetheless, an optimistic Pelosi is hopeful that she will have sewn up winning margins of House votes for both the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and a repeal of “Don’t ask, don’t tell.”
