Mitt Romney made a “calculated move” to get himself booed at the NAACP national convention, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi claimed on Wednesday night.

Speaking to Bloomberg Television, the California Democrat offered no explanation as to why she thought it would do Romney good to be heckled by the overwhelmingly black audience.

Asked by interviewer Peter Cook for her reaction to the booing, Pelosi merely said, “I think it was a calculated move on his part to get booed at the NAACP convention.”

Romney generally got a warm reaction from delegates to the convention in Houston when he spoke on Wednesday. But there was a chorus of boos when he talked about repealing President Barack Obama’s healthcare initiative.

During her Bloomberg interview, Pelosi claimed that opposition to Obamacare was waning in the light of the Supreme Court decision that most of it was constitutional.

“I have heard from people in the business community that the Supreme Court decision is almost a relief,” she told Cook. “Now they can proceed with some level of certainty to provide healthcare benefits with a tax credit for employees and also if they can’t they can pay into the system so that their employees are covered.

“The Supreme Court decision made a difference and some of the more recent comments from business are more favorable.”

Pelosi also claimed that Democrats are united in supporting Obama’s $250,000 threshold for annual earnings, above which George W. Bush’s tax cuts should not be extended, despite claims from many that they would prefer the figure to be set at $1 million.

“We are in complete unity with the president on the $250. We are delighted tht he put that message out there and that the administration responded that the president would veto a bill that came forward that extended all the Bush tax cuts.”

Pelosi claimed that the reason members of her party floated the $1 million figure was to “smoke out” members of the GOP.

“it was to say to the Republicans, ‘Is there any place that you can agree that people in the high, high end should pay more,” said Pelosi, whose net worth has been estimated at $35.5 million. “We smoked them out.

“As far as they are concerned, they are here to be the handmaidens… of the wealthiest people in our country. The 250 is a good figure, and House and Senate Democrats support that.”
