Chicago classic rock station 97.9 The Loop announced that radio personality Matthew Erich "Mancow" Muller will join WLUP beginning Monday, March 30.
The "Mancow Morning Show" will air 6 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. The show will also include Al Roker Jr., Luv Cheeze, Cathy Vlahogiannis, and Carrie Ann DeYoung, which are Mancow's original cast members, as well as Abe Kanan, host from SiriusXM Radio.
The Chicago radio station, which is owned by Cumulus Media, held on-air auditions for a month, which was followed up by a listener survey. After Mancow hosted the program for a week, The Loop says he "garnered an impressive listener response."
Mancow previously hosted radio programs in Chicago from 1994 to 2006. He hosted a nationally-syndicated radio program, which aired in 50 markets across the country.
"This is my final act because I don't believe I'll ever top this!" Mancow said in a statement released by Cumulus. "Chicago is a tough city for commuters and our ONLY goal with this show is to provide an escape and make our listeners laugh.
"There will be radio theater. We will be three-dimensional and break out of the speaker. This show will pop like no other. We believe it will cut through the clutter and seize an audience that hasn't been served in years."
Cumulus Executive Vice President John Dickey said that "Mancow is everything that's right about radio. The Loop couldn't have a better lead-off hitter. Da Loop is back with a vengeance."
Mancow added that he has his "dream team cast of characters and a company that actually wants to win. Lately in radio it seems like people are listless and don't know what to do. That is not the case with The Loop. We have a direction and we know where we're going. This is the most exciting time ever."
