LIGNET: Assad's Chemical Weapons Threat an Asylum Ploy

News reports have cited senior U.S. officials saying that Syria is preparing chemical weapons for use, but it’s doubtful that this is actually the case. It’s more likely that Syria leaked this report or engaged in activity at chemical weapons storage sites to pressure the West to facilitate an asylum deal for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family.
