Laura Ingraham: Obama's Weak Foreign Policy Helped Putin

Tuesday, 11 Mar 2014 11:43 AM

President Obama's "herky jerky, one step forward, two step back approach" to foreign policy and his intransigence to American exceptionalism helped bolster Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine's Crimean peninsula, conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham said Tuesday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

"When you conduct yourself as a nation in decline, in declining influence, and where our nation's not really any better than any other nation, then other nations take a cue from this," Ingraham told to co-host Brian Kilmeade, who asked how she thought Obama was handling the Crimean crisis.

While acknowledging that Putin may have invaded Ukraine no matter what, Ingraham argued that Obama's aversion to foreign matters has resulted in a "predictable" international crisis.

"I don't think he ever cared all that much for foreign policy," she said. "His approach to governance was really to reform America from within."

Obama, Ingraham said, is more concerned with "redistributing wealth" and "transforming America through energy policy, through the regulatory framework, through executive orders."

"There are real world consequences for signaling to Russia or China and every other country that we either can be bought, or that we're just simply not going to respond in a way that President [Ronald] Reagan would have responded in the same type of confrontation."
