A powerful group of former U.S. senators released a report this morning calling on the United States to prepare for military action against Iran.
The report says Iran’s progress toward acquiring a nuclear weapon has not been slowed by sanctions, recent assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists, or a cyber attack on its nuclear program, and that diplomatic efforts also have fallen flat. That leaves only one option, the authors write: military force.
“We believe the problem remains critical and it is therefore essential that the United States and other countries take action to persuade Iran to change course,” Stephen Rademaker, one of the members of the task force that issued the report, told LIGNET.com in an exclusive interview.
The Bipartisan Policy Center’s report has specific recommendations for the deployment of U.S. naval forces and joint military exercises to be conducted by the United States and its allies in the region. It also recommends “enhancing” the military threat from Israel.
