CNN correspondent Diana Magnay who called Israelis "scum" after they had taunted her near the Gaza border has been pulled out of the region and sent to Moscow.

"After being threatened and harassed before and during a live shot, Diana reacted angrily on Twitter," a CNN spokeswoman told The Huffington Post.

"She deeply regrets the language used, which was aimed directly at those who had been targeting our crew. She certainly meant no offense to anyone beyond that group, and she and CNN apologize for any offense that may have been taken."

On Thursday, the British newswoman was reporting live from a hill in Israel overlooking the Gaza border while Israelis were cheering as rockets were fired into the Palestinian region.

Later, Magnay sent out a tweet, saying, "Israelis on hill above Sderot cheer as bombs land on Gaza; threaten to 'destroy our car if I say a word wrong.' Scum."

Although the Twitter message was quickly deleted, it had already been re-tweeted 200 times, according to the Post.

CNN's spokeswoman said that Magnay has since been re-assigned to Russia.

Her departure comes just 24 hours after NBC News journalist Ayman Mohyeldin was pulled out of Gaza following a spate of hard-hitting news stories on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

NBC said it was motivated to move Mohyeldin, an Egyptian American, out of the war-torn area for "security reasons" as Israel prepares for a ground invasion, according to Glenn Greenwald in First Look.

Greenwald, who detailed the first reports about NSA leaker Edward Snowden, said that Mohyeldin had been playing soccer on the beach in Gaza City with the four Palestinian boys shortly before they were killed by Israeli gunboats.

The Huffington Post noted that there has been speculation that his social media use was the reason for his removal. According to Greenwald, Mohyeldin had posted several chilling accounts of the boys' deaths on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Greenwald wrote, "Over the last two weeks, Mohyeldin's reporting has been far more balanced and even-handed than the standard pro-Israel coverage that dominates establishment American press coverage.

"His reports have provided context to the conflict that is missing from most American reports and he avoids adopting Israeli government talking points as truth. As a result, neocon and 'pro-Israel' websites have repeatedly attacked him as 'a Hamas spokesman' and spouting 'pro-Hamas rants.'"

Mohyeldin was replaced by Richard Engel, Greenwald said.
