What is the best alternative to the airport body scanners and pat-down searches that have drawn so much ire from the American public? We can learn a thing or two from El Al Airlines, former Republican Rep. Susan Molinari of New York writes on Politico.

El Al, TSA, Molinari, security“For anyone who has ever traveled on El Al to Israel, the choice is clear: it’s security, peace of mind and the knowledge that the bad guys aren't going to get through,” she says.

“The current system is not providing that level of actual and perceived security here in the U.S. We all agree, the post-Sept. 11 world means that we have to give up some privacy. It appears, however, that terrorists will always figure out how to get through the next adjustment to these types of physical security measures,” Molinari writes.

“I believe that is why people get so angry when their great-grandmother or toddler son gets searched. El Al has proven the most effective way to deal with this, through intelligence gathering and background checks.”
