Chambliss: Benghazi Talking Points Changed ‘By Somebody’

By    |   Sunday, 18 November 2012 02:12 PM EST

Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Saxby Chambliss urged President Barack Obama “to exert every kind of pressure he can” on Egyptian leaders to promote nothing other than an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

“Israel has a right to protect itself, and if sending ground troops in is the only way they can clean out these nests of rockets being fired at them, you know, you can’t blame them for doing it,” Chambliss said on “Fox News Sunday.”

Regarding the controversy surrounding U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice and Rice’s public remarks about the Benghazi terrorist attacks, Chambliss said it remains a mystery who changed the talking points from an attack plot to a spontaneous demonstration.

“Every member of the intelligence community says that references to al-Qaida were removed by somebody, they don’t know who, and references to attacks versus demonstrations were removed by somebody,” he said.

Chambliss said CIA Director David Petraeus never wavered from the belief the Sept. 11 attack was terrorist-related.

“What he did say is that from day one, we knew it was a terrorist attack,” Chambliss said. “I mean, there was no question about it. You don’t bring automatic weapons, RPGs and mortars to a so-called demonstration.”
