9/11 Mastermind, 4 Others to be Tried in Military Court

Monday, 04 April 2011 02:14 PM EDT

WASHINGTON — The United States will try self-professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four co-conspirators in a military commission at Guantanamo Bay, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced Monday.

In making the announcement, Holder repeated his belief that federal courts are the best place to prosecute terrorism suspects but said Congress tied the government's hand in December when it adopted restrictions on prosecuting Guantanamo prisoners in civilian courts.
