Pat Robertson: God Won’t Let Ahmadinejad Start Armageddon

Christian Broadcasting Network founder and “The 700 Club” host Rev. Pat Robertson believes the present world will end someday — but not at the behest of nuclear-armed Iranian strongman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Although alarmed about Iran’s headlong pursuit of nuclear weapons, Robertson tells Newsmax he can’t bring himself to believe that God would let Iran’s president trigger a nuclear holocaust.

Robertson’s remarks came during an exclusive interview for the April edition of Newsmax magazine.


Asked whether unrest in the Middle East and Iran’s nuclear ambitions could be seen as a prelude to Armageddon, Robertson cited Old Testament prophet Ezekiel, who predicts in Ezekiel 38:5 that a coalition of other nations will rise up against Israel in a final battle “that’s made up of what looks like Russia, Turkey, Iran, the Sudan,” and other nations.

“So it’s all shaping up, and they are going to invade Israel in ‘the latter days,’” Robertson tells Newsmax in the exclusive interview. “So that to me is one of the most key prophetic signposts that we have available to us. And it’s coming to pass.”

But despite those worrisome signs, Robertson, who also founded Regent University and the Christian Coalition, tells Newsmax that he does not believe God would allow Ahmadinejad to wreak nuclear devastation on the world.

“I don’t think that God is going to allow some crazy guy like Ahmadinejad to blow up the world with an atomic weapon,” Robertson says. “I just don’t think he’s going to allow it.

“Now, God may bring a meteor on us, and we’ll know who did it. But he’s not going to turn this world lose to the crazies. But it certainly is frightening to think that nuclear technology is available to the A.Q. Khan network in Pakistan, or to Ahmadinejad in Iran, or to the people in North Korea,” he says.

Young people in Iran would revolt against that nation’s theocrats “if the United States would give them some assistance in any way,” Robertson says.
As for the withering persecution of Christians in the Middle East, Robertson says the revolt that is spreading across the Middle East appears to be “Muslim against Muslim, and the yearning for some kind of freedom besides what they’ve had.”

CBN CEO and “The 700 Club” co-host Gordon Robertson, Robertson’s son, tells Newsmax that he is especially concerned about the return to Egypt after a 30-year exile of Sunni cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi, as that nation tries to reform its political institutions.

“You look at some of the statements he says, where he wants to wipe Israel off the map, he’s calling for genocide of all Israelis — every man, woman, and child,” Gordon Robertson says.

“He’s publicly said if you kill a pregnant Israeli woman you’re doing good, because you’re killing a future soldier. So you look at those kinds of statements and that kind of influence within the Muslim Brotherhood, where they’ve invited him to come run the organization, there are disturbing elements,” he tells Newsmax.

It remains “an open question” whether Democracy will prevail in the wake of the Middle East protests, Gordon Robertson says.

“But I want to hope for the best,” he says. “I want to hope that the youth can put in a secular democracy, there can be free and open elections. [That] the Christian minority, the Coptic Christians in Egypt, will be protected. And I hope it doesn’t turn out like Iraq.

“Iraq had one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, and it’s been decimated since the war, and they’ve left in droves because they weren’t safe in their homes,” Gordon Robertson says.
