House Speaker John Boehner's resignation Friday was proclaimed as a "good day" for conservatives, the Heritage Foundation said.
"Americans deserve a Congress that fights for opportunity for all and favoritism to none," said Michael Needham, CEO of the foundation's
Heritage Action lobbying arm. "Too often, Speaker Boehner has stood in the way.
"Today's announcement is a sign that the voice of the American people is breaking through in Washington," he added. "Now is the time for a principled, conservative leader to emerge."
Boehner, 65, said that he would leave Congress next month, capping a 25-year tenure on Capitol Hill, including three terms as speaker that was rife with clashes with conservative Republicans.
"Heritage Action will continue fighting for conservative policy solutions and we look forward to working with the new leadership team," Needham said.
