Six members of a family were found drowned in their van that was swallowed up in a Houston bayou, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Citing Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the Chronicle reported the van carrying two elderly adults and four children, ranging in ages 6 to 16, was found in the Greens Bayou late Tuesday after flood waters began to recede.

"Unfortunately it seems that our worst thoughts have been realized," Gonzalez told the paper.

Gonzalez said divers recovered the grandparents, Belia and Maneul Saldiver, on Wednesday and expected to find the four kids in the van, according to the report.

The driver of the van, Sammy Saldiver, was able to escape but not save anyone else when the van was engulfed Sunday, the paper reported.
