Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum called for a ground force of 10,000 troops to fight the growth of the extremist group that calls itself the Islamic State.
The potential Republican presidential contender tells the annual CPAC convention in Maryland Friday that the U.S. needs to "crush the group."
He's calling for a two-prong strategy that includes boots on the ground to coordinate airstrikes and provide advice, training and intelligence.
He also wants additional airstrikes, and would arm the Kurds in Iraq while increasing foreign aid to Jordan and Egypt.
Santorum ran in 2012 and formed a nonprofit and political action committee after dropping out of the race.
