Rep. Broun: Congress Needs to Let Bomb Probe Play Out

By    |   Tuesday, 16 April 2013 03:55 PM EDT

Congress needs to let local and federal authorities determine who carried out the terror attacks in Boston on Monday before holding its own investigation, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee told Newsmax.

“We must look into who perpetrated this heinous act and bring them to justice,” the Georgia Republican said on Tuesday. “We need to let the process take its proper course of having the legal authorities carry out their investigation.”

Broun said that he looks forward to the congressional committee holding classified briefings and hearings when it is appropriate.

Likewise, the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee cautioned against getting ahead of the authorities.

However, Republican Rep. Mike McCaul told reporters on Tuesday that Congress needs to provide the necessary resources to help those responsible for carrying out the investigation.

The Texas Republican added that many terrorist plots have been interrupted in the United States in the 12 years since the attacks of 9/11 because of good intelligence, but in this case “they were very quiet.”
