Rep. Patrick Meehan: Bombers’ 'Sophisticated' Acts Hint at Terrorist Training

By    |   Friday, 19 April 2013 08:00 PM EDT

The Boston Marathon bombing horror was a “sophisticated operation’’ that may indicate that one or both of the brothers named as suspects received training in terrorism, Pennsylvania Rep. Patrick Meehan says.

“My own interest is peaked by the suggestion that the dead brother spent some six month period in time overseas,’’ Meehan, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, told Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.’’

“This is a relatively sophisticated operation. Not just the way they were able to put together and deliver it at the bomb site, but the way they’ve been able to initially escape scrutiny.’’

The two suspects — Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, who sources believe is currently in Watertown, Mass. and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed during a gunfight with police — may possibly have a sympathies towards al-Qaida’s ideology, Meehan suggested.

“The older brother has specifically posted information [online] which has tied into al-Qaida sort of references,’’ he said.

“[This] would lead you to ask the very, very logical question as to whether or not there’s been some kind of jihadist-based inspiration that has been behind this.’’
