Hillary Clinton still holds a slim lead over Donald Trump only a week before the election, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll conducted after it was announced that the investigation into Clinton's private email server will be reopened.
In a four-way race with the Green Party's Jill Stein and Libertarian Gary Johnson, the former secretary of state comes out on top.
- Clinton: 46 percent;
- Trump: 43 percent;
- Johnson: 7 percent;
- Stein: 5 percent.
When asked if the new review makes them more or less likely to vote for Clinton, voters responded:
- No difference: 39 percent;
- Less likely: 39 percent;
- More likely: 18 percent;
- No opinion: 4 percent.
"It is unlikely that there will be a dramatic shift in the polls before Election Day," Morning Consult cofounder and Chief Research Officer Kyle Dropp told Politico. "While Friday's news may be considered an 'October Surprise,' it doesn't seem to be moving the needle as of now."
FBI Director James Comey announced that the agency was reviewing newly discovered emails related to the Clinton investigation on Friday, in an email to members of Congress.
Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder criticized the decision, in an op-en in The Washington Post.
"I fear he has unintentionally and negatively affected public trust in both the Justice Department and the FBI," Holder wrote. "And he has allowed — again without improper motive — misinformation to be spread by partisans with less pure intentions."
