Gingrich: Republicans Should Focus on Education

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said America's leaders should focus on improving the educational system if they want to reverse the "culture of dependency."

In an interview with Newsmax TV, Gingrich said saving young children from illiteracy is the best way to ensure the nation moves from a culture of dependency to one that emphasizes independence.

Gingrich and his wife Callista have established Gingrich Productions, a company that plans to produce a number of informative, educational videos on topics ranging from the technology that facilitates driverless cars to the legacy of George Washington.

The former presidential candidate also recently filmed a 75-minute video with Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels on innovation.

“This is designed to be a two-way learning process that’s open source education,” Gingrich said. “If we can break through on education and really allow children to learn at (the) fastest rate and allow adults to learn without sitting in (a) classroom, we’ll change America in more ways you can imagine.”

In a wide ranging interview, Gingrich also spoke on:

The fiscal cliff.
The rising stars of the Republican Party.
