Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich believes that Republican governors across the country will provide some of the best solutions that will not only drive innovation in the country but also transform the party.
Speaking to Newsmax TV at CPAC 2013, Gingrich said Republicans need to adopt policies that are not only good for the party and winning elections, but that also focus on creating a better America.

“Jack Kemp didn’t focus on party, but creating a bigger and better America. Reagan focused on attracting Democrats, Republicans and independents to a bigger, better America,” he said.
Gingrich singled out Govs. Scott Walker and Bobby Jindal as state leaders who are innovating. He said that Republicans need look no further than the Republican Governors Association for solid ideas.
“Scott Walker has put through first rate initiatives and Bobby Jindal and others are doing really smart things. The Republican Governors Association should publish the best five to 10 ideas each year from top governors. You’d have a lot of great developments,” he said.
Addressing the Republican Party’s future, Gingrich praised efforts underway by party Chairman Reince Priebus.

“Reince Priebus has done a very important thing in setting up the growth and opportunity committee. It’s the first step to really change the Republican side of Washington. It will take a lot of deep arguments because a lot of interest groups don’t want to change,” Gingrich said. “Some of them are propping up the past and some are consultants propping up their own accounts and some are lazy and don’t want to learn new things.”
In a wide ranging interview, Gingrich also spoke on:
•
The fiscal cliff.
•
Education.
