The resignation of Michael Flynn as national security adviser to President Donald Trump has put FBI Director James Comey back in the spotlight of American politics.

Democrats are clamoring for an investigation into Trump, Republicans are calling for an investigation into Russia and Flynn, and still others want an investigation into the intelligence community itself — FBI included — about why Flynn's calls with the Russians were recorded in the first place.

And at the center of it all will be Comey and the FBI.

All this just a few months after Democrats accused Comey of partisan politics and influencing the election when he announced his decision to reinvestigate Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server 10 days before the election.

"He twice made the decision that in light of the high public awareness, to try to clear the air — and no air got cleared," California Republican Darrell Issa told The Hill.

Having been kept on by Trump, Comey's agency is back walking a tightrope with the entire world watching.

"I have a sense that the man is trying to do what he thinks is right — because he has made everyone mad," Arizona Republican Trent Franks told The Hill.
