The Environmental Protection Agency has updated a 38-state fuel waiver, so that gasoline and diesel will get to market more quickly, in order to help areas that are soon to be hit by Hurricane Irma, according to the Washington Examiner.

The waivers bypass a requirement for a level of refinement and processing, so the process of getting the fuel to the public is sped up, according to the Examiner.

EPA and the Department of Energy determined that a short-term waiver was in the public interest. Jeffrey F. Koerner, director of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Air Resource Management division, made the request on behalf of Florida’s governor, Rick Scott, according to TC Palm.

"We’re working aggressively to get more fuel to gas stations," Scott said Thursday, CBS Miami reported.

"If you know you are going to shelter in your county, please take only the fuel you need … this will help ensure all Floridians will have access to gas," Scott said to Floridians.
