Donald Trump Jr. said Saturday that former James Comey's testimony "vindicated" his father and said that the former FBI director had "proven himself to be a liar."
"He has proven himself to be a dishonest man of bad character," Trump Jr. told Jeanine Pirro on Fox News. "They spent 10 months chasing a rabbit down a hole with the sole purpose of taking down my father.
"We were vindicated."
Comey said in his opening statement of his testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee that President Donald Trump was not personally under investigation on any possible ties to Russia.
Trump Jr. noted to Pirro that while Comey leaked his notes of Trump meetings to a professor at the Columbia Law School to make available to the media, he did not leak information regarding whether the president was personally under investigation.
"Of all the things that were leaked, the only thing that wasn't leaked was that Trump was never under investigation," he said. "Because there is nothing there.
"How come that's not leaked?
"It's pretty scary when you think about it," he continued. "The only thing totally vindicating Trump from a 10-month witch hunt – that never makes it anywhere."
Regarding his father's Twitter use, Trump Jr. said that the president would "play the monkey in the middle" until the press "chooses to cover him honestly and in an unbiased fashion.
"He will go over the top and to the people," he told Pirro. "It works – and that's why they are so furious.
"They are becoming more and more irrelevant every day. There is virtually no trust in the mainstream media.
"So, people are going to alternative sources," Trump Jr. said. "If you go right to the source, you are going to get what he's actually thinking."
