Herpes, one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, is a virus that affects the mouth and the genital area appearing as sores that ooze and itch. Genital herpes can affect both men and women of any age and spreads through skin-to-skin contact. It does not spread through personal objects such as towels because the virus cannot survive outside the body.

There are two types of herpes viruses: Herpes Simplex One and Herpes Simplex Two. Herpes Simplex One affects the mouth and results in cold sores, blisters, and fever and can spread through oral sex. Herpes Simplex Two leads to genital herpes and affects genital and anal areas in both men and women. It causes blisters and sores. Hormonal imbalance, stress, pregnancy, weak immune system, unhygienic conditions, and unprotected sex can trigger and spread the infection.

There are many natural supplements that can be used for the treatment of herpes:

Garlic: Garlic contains sulfur and is anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial. By consuming a few cloves of garlic everyday, you may be able to keep the herpes virus at bay.

Echinacea: Echinacea strengthens the immune system, wards off systemic infections, and can even detoxify the body. You can consume echinacea in different forms including juices, tea, or as a pill. Echinacea is among the best natural herpes treatments.

Goldenseal: If you feel garlic is too strong or too harsh, you could try goldenseal. Goldenseal has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Make a paste of goldenseal, black walnut hull powder, and echinacea and apply the paste to the herpes sores. It provides relief and may heal the sores.
