Anthea Butler, an associate professor of religion of at the
University of Pennsylvania, analyzes Palin's political speech from an evangelical Christian perspective. Butler notes Palin's use of the phrase "prayer shield" means those prayers will shield believers from the devil attacking or from satanic forces. Butler says the way Palin framed her desire to run for President is classic conservative Christian woman's phrasing. It means, Butler says, that Palin feels moved to act but realizes it is a problem too because of her family.
